Intro
As part of the Tiempos Inciertos exhibition, which explores the social and cultural transformations of the Weimar Republic, CaixaForum wanted to create an interactive space that directly engages visitors in reflecting on the topics addressed. WAVM developed a participatory installation that, through two interactive experiences, allows visitors to position themselves on major contemporary issues and see how their opinions integrate into a collective discourse.
Context
CaixaForum is a leading institution in the dissemination of culture and art through exhibitions, workshops, and participatory activities. With the Uncertain Times exhibition, CaixaForum aims to connect past and present through a critical review of the social, political, and cultural changes that marked Germany in the first half of the 20th century. The goal was to expand the exhibition experience with an installation that transforms reflection into a tangible and dynamic encounter.

What?
WAVM, together with Sullivan, conceptualized two interactive experiences that foster visitor participation.
WAVM designed, programmed, and installed the two installations at both CaixaForum Madrid and CaixaForum Barcelona.
Crossroads of Decisions
A system with two doors invites visitors to choose between two opposing realities: living in a world of certainties or in a world of uncertainties. Each door is equipped with sensors that register visitor movement and reflect those decisions in the next installation.
Reflection Lab
A space with interactive stations where visitors respond to questions related to the exhibition's themes. Using illuminated buttons, they can vote for or against different statements according to their age group. The system records the responses and projects them in real-time using a UST projector, creating a visual map of the participants’ opinions.
This project required the development of an intuitive interaction interface, programming a real-time data recording system, and integrating sensors and audiovisual devices to ensure a smooth and immersive experience. WAVM also handled the design and construction of the physical elements, ensuring an accessible and aesthetically coherent setup with the rest of the exhibition.
