Interaction through Lidar

Intro

The New Wax Museum of Barcelona opens its doors transformed into a 21st-century space, yet without losing its impressive architecture and history. In this renovation process, WAVM has developed two interactive installations that contribute a digital and participatory dimension to the museum experience.

Context

Located in the heart of Barcelona, in the building that was formerly the headquarters of the Bank of Barcelona, the Wax Museum has reinvented itself to adapt to modern times. By incorporating interactive installations, the museum aims to enhance its appeal through immersive experiences that combine its historical legacy with the possibilities offered by digital innovation.

What?

WAVM has designed, programmed, and executed two interactive installations that integrate advanced technology into the museum tour.

Interactive corridor

The first installation is an interactive corridor, where several UST projectors project images on the ground while a hidden LIDAR laser in one of the walls allows the surface to react to visitors movements. This experience includes two distinct visual dynamics: in one, parallel lines react as if they were guitar strings, deforming and vibrating with movement; in the other, a digital sand simulation is generated with small balls that disperse and bounce against the wall, creating a realistic physical effect.

Virtual Aquarium

The second installation is a virtual aquarium, located next to the submarine, where visitors can interact with the fish by touching the screen to feed them. The fish move towards user interaction, creating a fluid and realistic visual response. At a certain moment, the lighting changes abruptly and a fierce fish appears, creating a striking surprise effect that adds a narrative component to the experience.

With this project, WAVM has coordinated a multidisciplinary team of experts in design, programming, and audiovisual production to develop a robust and technologically advanced installation, ensuring an immersive and high-performance experience for visitors of the Wax Museum of Barcelona.
